‘Catalonia's Independence: when nationalism and democracy clash’ will discuss the events leading up to and following October 1, when an overwhelming majority of Catalans voted in favour of independence.
Although declared illegal by the Constitutional Court of Spain, the vote still went ahead and made history in a long-term struggling relationship between Madrid and Barcelona.
, an academic in the , will be joined at the event via video link by Eunice Romero, a PhD student and visiting researcher at the Open University of Catalonia. Together they will present their insights into the Catalonian independence movement and the agenda of the Spanish Government.
